Storytelling is an integral part of The Sidmouth Folk Festival.
In 2022, we welcome Katy Cawkwell with powerful, dramatic performances of tales of wonder, myth and legend and engaging, inspiring workshops. Rattlebox Theatre presents part of the famous Anglo-Saxon epic poem “Beowulf” and Arthurian Tales. Daisy Black brings us Mappa Mundi; a tour around the medieval map of the world. A show full of marvels, saints and giants, heroes and devils, grisly cannibals and Norwegian skiers. Weaving together medieval maps and travel writing with oral storytelling, this show is your passport to visit the world as a fourteenth-century traveller. Just watch out for the monsters lurking at the edges of the map! More storytelling comes from Louise Sherman, finally able to join us from the USA, and our resident storyteller Janet Dowling hosts the popular morning Storytelling Circles.
Poetry for All sessions are back with Ilse Pedler in the Royal Glen Hotel and that unique purveyor of comic verse, Racker Donnelly holds court all week.
