Janet Dowling has been telling stories since a child, worked with stories for therapeutic effect in her first career as a psychiatric social worker and family therapist, as well as supporting her Morris team with stories between dances. 

In 1994 she met Dan Keding, Liz Weir and Sheila Stewart, storytellers at Sidmouth Folk Week and ten years later left her day job to become a jobbing community storyteller working in diverse projects ranging from schools to children’s hospital therapeutic storyteller, to oral history collections turned in to songs, to facilitating personal storytelling in Israel and Palestine, and working with storytelling for change in her work as a bereavement support.
