Flamenco Guitar Workshops Mon – Fri 11.30am, Primary School
An inspiring introduction to flamenco guitar and its intricacies. Matt Sullivan will explain some of the basic elements of flamenco guitar which will inspire and excite newcomers to this passionate cultural art form from the heart of Andalucia.
Students should have a reasonable grasp of chords to get the most from these workshops. Charts and diagrams will be provided. Students should bring a flamenco or classical guitar if they value their fingernails, a steel strung acoustic if not. A foot stool can help postpone that knee operation if preferred.
The outcome of the workshops is to leave students with an instilled passion and respect for this vibrant art form and enough information to continue advancing on their own path to Andalucian culture.
Session 1
An introduction to flamenco guitar, the history, cultural background and roots. Posture, basic strumming techniques and rasguiado.
Session 2
An introduction to the chords and cadences played on flamenco guitar.
Session 3
An introduction to the rhythms in flamenco music and how they apply to the chord sequences from session 2.
Session 4
An introduction to buleria and tangos and how to play a basic chord sequence for dancers.
Session 5
In introduction to the scales/modes within the music and how falsetas can be formed.
Flamenco music workshops Mon-Fri 4pm, Primary School

Students are encouraged to bring an instrument of their choice be they percussion, melodic or harmonic instruments.

Session 1
An introduction to flamenco, the history, cultural background and roots. An introduction to the rhythms used in flamenco.
Session 2
An introduction to the chords and cadences played in flamenco music to accompany the rhythms from session 1.
Session 3
An introduction to a letra of Sevillana for singers alongside the melody for instrumentalists and rhythm for percussionists. Words provided.
Session 4
A continuation from session 3 with an invite to the guitar group to join in with the chords.
Session 5
A rehearsal of one complete letra of Sevillana by the whole group including guitarist should they wish.
