Storytelling is an intrinsic part of Sidmouth Folk Festival, and all corners of the town have been filled with tales of wonder from around the world over the years.
We’re delighted to bring another packed programme of storytellers, events, story circles and workshops to the 70th Sidmouth.
We’re delighted to bring another packed programme of storytellers, events, morning storytelling circles with Ean Richardson, early evening storyrounds with Mo Keast and Tom Goodale, late-night ghost stories, workshops and much more to the 70th Festival.
The events announced so far include:
David Heathfield – beginner and improvers storytelling workshops plus Tales from around the World events.
Jack Lynch & Len Graham – Tall tales, splendid songs and wickedly wise words. Two of Ireland’s finest performers conspire to delight you with great songs and heart-warming stories.
Janet Dowling presents The Thirteenth Zodiac and the Lost Boy, an interactive retelling of the Orion Star Myth in the Sky
Matthew Crampton – folk stories and songs from a Sidmouth Folk Festival favourite.
Mike O’Connor & Barbara Griggs – The Prophecy Of Merlin – a fast paced epic adventure story.
Pandvani108 – Storytellers Emily Hennessey, Ben Haggarty and Steph Brittain deliver bold, physical, intelligent and contemporary performance of mashed-up myth and global epic for grown-ups, while musicians Raoul Neumann, Sheema Mukherjee and Rao Neiyyar provide a genius improvised soundtrack, ranging from Indian classical music to punked pop!
Peter Chand – powerful, evocative and moving stories from the Indian subcontinent.
Taffy Thomas – workshops, yarns, stories of music, joy & life and the famous ‘Tale Coat’ from The Storyteller. Look out for some very special Sidmouth events with Taffy when the
main programme is released.
Tam Lin Retold (Corinne Harragin & Nick Hart) live improvised music with unscripted oral storytelling, inspired by the Ballad of Tam Lin.
POETRY
Poetry sessions are back with ILSE PEDLER in the Royal Glen Hotel. Ilse will be on the lookout for your festival memories to craft into a special anniversary poem to be displayed at a Memory Tree at the festival, at which further recollections can be viewed and added.
A workshop with Word Kitchen explores the links between poetry, song and protest.

Ilse Pedler is crafting a special 70th poem inspired by YOUR memories. Share your festival experiences: from legendary muddy years to memorable encounters and Sidmouth’s evolution over the decades.
