This year’s Children’s Festival has once again transformed Peacock Lawn into a colourful hub of creativity, music and fun, with grateful thanks to the generous support of the Keith Owen Fund, administered through the Sid Vale Association.
Our Free Folk for Families project, supported by the Fund, is delivering on its promise: over 100 free workshops, shows and creative activities for children aged 0–11, alongside opportunities for families to access hundreds of main Festival events at no cost for children. From ukulele lessons, clog and rapper dance workshops, and maypole dancing to junk percussion, puppet theatre, lantern-making, and forest school fun, Peacock Lawn has been alive with energy and imagination all week.
Each day, hundreds of families – both local residents and visitors from across the country – have joined in. We’ve seen children learning new skills, making new friends, and taking part in activities that build towards the Family Festival Showcase and the magical Torchlight Festival procession on Friday 8th August.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of over 50 dedicated Children’s Festival volunteers has been central to creating a safe, welcoming environment, working alongside professional artists and facilitators.
The Festival Directors said:
“We are hugely grateful to the Keith Owen Fund for supporting Free Folk for Families. Thanks to their generosity, children across the Sid Valley and beyond, are able to take part in high-quality, inclusive activities without cost being a barrier. It has been wonderful to see Peacock Lawn full of music, creativity and joy this week.”
The Children’s Festival continues throughout the week, with more workshops, performances and family fun to come.
