Her Orange Coat
HerOrangeCoat’s alt-folk songs – original, soulful and heartfelt – weave her life experiences to date into a rich tapestry of sound. Armed with her ukulele, she crafts songs that transform melancholy
into an enticing musical journey that demands to be heard.
Her debut EP Ballads for this Age simultaneously outlined the difficulties of her early twenties whilst providing a micro-study of some of the most pressing societal issues of the present day. The first track, Ballad 1 (Sorry), was played on BBC Introducing Leeds and Sheffield and was labelled ‘A haunting listen that feels like it’s straight from the soul…unlike anything else I’ve heard this year’ by Adam Reeve of Dead Good Music. Ballad 2 (Skin Off My Back) was heralded ‘a divinely dark slice of modern folk’ by With Just a Hint of Mayhem Blog, whilst Ballad 3 (Jamaica ’59) was praised for its ‘delicately woven lyricism throughout’ in Bread Records’ Just the Crust.
Most recently, HerOrangeCoat released The Woodland Sessions, as part of a project funded by the NextGen Fund from Youth Music, followed by The Woodland Sessions (Studio). Hailed ‘an absolute beautiful piece’ by Simon Pattinson of Yorkmix Radio, delicacy is central to the work. Written and played in the sites that inspired them, each in a single day, HerOrangeCoat’s songs tell the stories of five distinctive woodlands and her experiences there. These field recordings are intimate, introspective, and invite the listener on a journey into the woods.
