Celebrating Volunteers’ Week – and the People Who Make Sidmouth Folk Festival Possible
As Volunteers’ Week (1–7 June) draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to make our festival, and many other events and community organisations happen.
This week also saw the announcement of the ACED (Arts & Culture East Devon) Volunteer of the Year Award 2026. It was a real pleasure to be involved in the judging process and to hear so many inspiring stories of dedication, commitment and community spirit from across East Devon’s cultural sector. The shortlist included Jane Nicholls from Sidmouth Folk Festival, who has marked up 70 years volunteering, alongside volunteers from museumsand arts organisations throughout the district.
At Sidmouth Folk Festival, we have nearly 500 volunteers, at the festival and year-round. From welcoming audiences and supporting artists to helping with processions, campsites, box offices and behind-the-scenes administration, their contribution is invaluable – the festival could not happen without them.
So to every one of our volunteers, whether you’ve been with us for decades or joined us for the first time last year, Thank You!
And if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the team, why not get involved? Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, gain experience, see the festival from a different perspective and become part of one of the UK’s most iconic folk festivals. Applications for the 2026 volunteer team are now open, and we’d love to welcome some new faces.
