John Kirkpatrick & Sue Harris
Sue Harris is unusual in the folk music community as a fully, formally trained musician, fluent in the reading and writing of music and a classically trained musician who switched from her original instrument, the oboe, to the hammered dulcimer in the mi-1970’s. She performed with Albion Country Band, with Richard and Linda Thomson and as one half of a duet with John Kirkpatrick. A composer for the BBC on various broadcast plays, as well as for live theater, Sue is also a singer and has written music for choral groups.
John Kirkpatrick is one of the most prolific figures on the English folk scene, performing solo, in duos, acoustic groups and electric bands, and has established an enviable reputation as an instrumental virtuoso (melodeon, Anglo concertina and button accordion), as well as a leading interpreter of English folk music. He has been a member of the Albion Country Band, Magic Lantern, The Richard Thompson Band, Umps and Dumps, Steeleye Span, Brass Monkey, Trans-Europe Diatonique, and Band of Hope, as well as numerous ceilidh bands. Also a songwriter, composer, choreographer, and musical director, John still dances with the Morris team he founded in 1975, The Shropshire Bedlams.
